~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ AIW Information Exchange ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ IBM has created Internet mailing lists to allow APPN vendors, implementers, consultants, and users to interact with and receive information from APPN architects regarding APPN networking issues today. Mailing lists such as APPN consulting, APPN architectural modifications, testing and conformance, major enhancements like High Performance Routing (HPR), Branch Extender, Extended Border Node, and Dependent LU Requester (DLUR), and many others are provided. Anyone with an Internet address and a desire to learn more about APPN can join. AIW Web Server We have a Web server up and running that provides easy access to lots of information regarding APPN and the AIW for both APPN developers and customers. Use your favorite Web browser to access: http://www.networking.ibm.com/app/aiwhome.htm (the previous URL, http://www.raleigh.ibm.com/app/aiwhome.htm, still works, too) Here is a sampling of some of the information you'll have access to: * Information on the APPN Implementers Workshop (AIW) conference. You'll be able to track the progress of numerous industry-wide work groups that are currently working to further enhance APPN as the most feature-rich networking protocol in the industry. * APPC/APPN document repository: this repository contains hundreds of documents, all neatly ordered by category. Configuration information, asuite (aftp, aname, etc.), education, papers written by experts in the field, user and programmer tips, and much more information can be accessed here. * CIW document repository: contains the latest specification for the CPI-C 2.0 industry standard. * Information on upcoming APPN-related conferences, such as the AIW, CIW, APPC/APPN Technical Conference, and SHARE. * Pointers to other Web sites with additional information on APPN and DLSw. * Questions and issues our current customers are wrestling with regarding APPN, and answers provided by various APPN experts. Virtually every subject is covered here: APPN over ATM, interconnecting multiple networks using border node, configuration issues, connection networks, performance measurements of HPR's Automatic Network Routing, and much more. AIW BookServer There is now a facility available so that you can look at AIW architecture documents on the Web just by pointing your browser to http://www.networking.ibm.com/cgi-bin/bookmgr/shelves Several bookshelves have been added to the IBM BookManager BookServer at IBM Networking. Books which have received AIW approval as well as books undergoing AIW review are available as well as other architecture documents in the AIW, Networking Architectures Overview, and Programming Interfaces bookshelves. In the AIW bookshelf wou will find online the latest editions of the APPN Architecture Reference, APPN Branch Extender Architecture Reference, APPN Dependent LU Requester Architecture Reference, APPN Extended Border Node Architecture Reference, APPN High Performance Routing Architecture Reference, and High Performance Routing in IP Networks. In the Networking Architectures Overview bookshelf wou will find online other architecture documents such as SNA Formats, SNA/MS Formats, SNA/Management Services Reference, SNA Technical Overview, SNA LU 6.2 Peer Protocols, SNA Transaction Programmer's Reference Manual for LU Type 6.2, and more. What is on this file server and how to access it is explained below. The file server name is ftp.networking.ibm.com (networking.raleigh.ibm.com still works, too). Use anonymous FTP to login and copy AIW files from this file server. To use anonymous FTP, FTP to the above address and login as anonymous for the userid. Use your internet address as the password. The Networking file server is on an AIX machine so the following AIX/UNIX commands can be used while logged on under FTP: ? acct append ascii binary cd close cms debug delete delimit dir ebcdic euckanji get help ibmkanji jis78kj jis83kj lcd locsite locstat lpwd ls mdelete mget mode mput noop open pass put pwd quit quote rename sendport sendsite site sjiskanji status struct sunique system type user Useful Commands --------------- + ls - lists the files in the current directory. + ls -al - same as ls except also displays file sizes, the date last updated, and access authority/ownership information. + cd - allows you to change the directory you are currently working within. + pwd - tells you which directory you are currently within. + get - downloads a file onto your local system so you can view and/or print it out. + binary - all subsequent file upload/downloads are done in binary. + ascii - all subsequent file upload/downloads are done in ASCII. + user - type 'user anonymous' to login as user ID of anonymous. + put - allows you to copy files onto the Networking file server. For anonymous ftp, files can only be written to the /incoming directory. + quit - logs you off of the Networking file server. If you have any questions specifically related to the file server send your question to help@ftp.raleigh.ibm.com. Networking File Server ---------------------- FTP to ftp.networking.ibm.com (networking.raleigh.ibm.com still works, too) Each mailing list supported by the AIW has its own directory on Networking. All mail logs for the mail lists are also located on the file server under the directory maillogs. The following diagram shows the directory/file hierarchy for the AIW on Networking.
